The inaugural China Equine Cultural Festival Race Day was held on Saturday and the Irish bred filly Beat Of The Drum won the richest race taking the Pengxin National Breeders Cup for trainer Gerard Hourigan. Beat Of The Drum led throughout under Singapore jockey K B Soo and opened up a huge winning margin of more than 70 metres to take the day’s biggest race which was worth one million yuan (HK$1.26 million) and was the feature event at the Hohhot racecourse which is situated 1,000km west of Beijing. Beat of the Drum was purchased by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock Ltd at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sales in 2011 for 100,000gns.
