SERVICES

Buying a Racehorse

Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock Ltd attend all major sales (auctions), we have a dedicated and very knowledgeable team of spotters who reach the sale yards several days in advance of a sale, it is our policy to see every horse catalogued. We inspect each horse for their conformation (physique); horses that do not possess good conformation will not make the short list. However, if we are satisfied that the horse has the required conformation to make an equine athlete, we then look carefully at their pedigree, which ultimately determines the likely value of the horse. Usually a racehorse trainer will have been selected prior to the sale, we will show the trainer the horses that have made our short list and value their input on the final selection. In consultation with our client, a decision will be made on which horse/s he or she would like us to bid on, we will then ask a firm of veterinarians to vet the horse/s on the client’s behalf. If the horse successfully passes the veterinary examination, we go to battle in the sale ring, where we hope our bid will secure the horse in question.
