Barney Roy,who broke the course record when triumphing in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, has been retired from racing and will stand at Dalham Hall Stud. His fee has been set at £10,000 Oct 1, Special Live Foal. The Richard Hannon-trained colt also finished second in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and was beaten just a nose by Ulysses in the Eclipse at Sandown during the 2017 campaign. Hannon told www.darleyeurope.com: “Barney Roy is by far the best colt I have trained and the most athletic horse I have seen. We look forward to seeing his yearlings at the sales.” We like to wish all his connections the very best at Stud. Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock purchased the son of Excelabration as a yearling for £70,000 at Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in 2015 from Castletown Quarry Stud.
